Are you someone with an altered or different appearance and experiencing appearance-related distress and over the age of 18?

As part of my work at the Centre for Appearance Research, University of the West of England, Bristol and the School of Psychology at University of Plymouth, I have developed an online cognitive behavioural tool to support adults with visible differences. If you are interested in learning more about the program please visit the Face IT @home website or contact me.

Camping Retreats

Do you feel you could do with getting away from it all, but also want to be able to talk to someone about your worries and concerns?

I offer camping retreats in conjunction with the nearby Stathe Bungalow Farm, who have a quiet, peaceful campsite that enables people to really get away from it all. You can book a caravan or tent stay for as long as you like and during that time receive a package of counselling tailored to your needs. Counselling sessions can either be done in the peace and quiet of the farm grounds or Stathe fishing lake, or at my home office nearby. Some people prefer to “walk and talk” where you can explore the local footpaths on the Somerset levels and discuss their issues with me along the way. These sessions are available at evenings and weekends only. For more detail please contact me. For more information about stathe bungalow farm please visit the website.

Spa Retreats

We offer a variety of different spa retreat experiences for a range of different conditions. Our retreats include confidence building, sleep and well being.

1. Confidence Retreat
Someone with good self-esteem and self-confidence does not feel the need to prove anything to anyone, but they are open to letting themselves have experiences from which they can learn. Good self esteem is about being able to love and accept oneself without being influenced by other peoples’ opinions. It is about being able to accept constructive criticism is respect of your task performance without seeing it as being a personal attack or insult. This retreat aims to help participants understand good self-esteem and to learn tools and techniques to help them improve their self-esteem and self-confidence.

2. Sleep Retreat
Good quality sleep is when you fall asleep quite easily, do not wake up fully during the night, do not wake up too early, and feel refreshed in the morning. It is not normal at any age to regularly have a lot of trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep if you are healthy. The sleep retreat aims to help you to understand what sleep is and what it does for us, and how to improve the quality of the sleep you are getting.

3. Lifesong
One way to think about how well we are doing is by looking at how well we function. Being able to handle normal levels of stress, leading an independent and full life and being able to “bounce back” from difficult situations or life events, are all signs of being in good shape. Good mental health (being able to be flexible about how we cope, and feeling generally contented) is an important part of our overall health and well-being and is just as important as physical health. This retreat gives us time to consider and reflect on our emotional and psychological wellbeing – it is about how we think, feel and behave.
